These buses aren’t really replacing oil as they are still using 6.7 liter diesel engines, but there is a big difference that all pedestrians will appreciate. The diesel engine runs at a constant speed keeping the lithium batteries charged. The electric motors allow the bus to accelerate without any increase in rpms from the combustion engine, and that means no clouds of diesel smoke every time the light turns green!

This purchase makes NYC the largest user of hybrid buses in the world!
